Here is how the average Saskatoon house price looks like over the last decade.
Specifically, lets look at the time period from Sept 2006 to June 2008 when house prices appreciated 93%.
How do commodity prices and the average Saskatoon house price correlate?
Here is Uranium.
Here is Potash
Here is Oil. Even though there are no oil fields within 100 miles of Saskatoon and Saskatoon's economy has maybe a handful of companies that are directly associated with drilling and rigs, I'll put oil in.
Other than debt growth, uranium is the first thing that I have found that actually seemed correlated with the average Saskatoon house price launching to new heights in 2007 and 2008. Because we know it was not because of the growth in the average weekly wage, disposable incomes, population growth, GDP growth that launched house prices. I highly doubt that Saskatoon people plowed into debt to buy a house because of the rise of uranium.
