Which Employment Sectors Have Boomed in Saskatoon?

Wondering which industries have really boomed in Saskatoon over the last 15 years?  Which industries have crashed? Wonder no more.  This post will show Saskatoon monthly employment in the industries of the goods producing sector since March 1996, except for utilities ( which has limited data and utilities employment is less than 1% of total employment).  I hope to have the services producing sector done later this week.

Here is how employment has grown in Saskatoon over the last 15 years.
The first graph will have the total amount of employment in each industry, while the second graph will be the percentage that industry is of the total working population.

Here is the goods producing sector

Here is agriculture
 Here is manufacturing
Here is fishing, forestry, mining, oil and gas
Here is construction
Agriculture has taken an absolute %^&% kicking in employment.  Manufacturing employment has more or less stayed level in the last 16 years.  But because total employment has grown, manufacturing's share of total employment has dropped from 9% to 7%.  Resource employment stayed between 2000 workers and 3800 workers from March 96 until the fall of 2007.  Then employment in the resource sector skyrocketed to over 6000 workers during the commodity bubble.  Employment has trended down since then (Here is a quick look at commodities prices and the average Saskatoon house price).  Construction employment has experienced, without a doubt, the strongest growth in any industry.  And this is not just in the goods producing sector but the services producing sector as well.  While overall employment grew by 40%, construction employment has grown by almost 200% from March 96 to Jan 2012.  Second best industry growth was health care employment in the services producing sector which grew at just over 76%.  Construction growth has also slowed the decline of the goods producing sector as a percentage of total employment.  Goods producing sector employment in Saskatoon is just over 17% of total employment.  Compare that to Canada, where goods producing sector employment is just over 21%.

I will try and get the services producing sector done in the next few days.
